Why is that English speaking people speak such a misunderstood French?

People who speak English as their first language always think that they are pronouncing the French language correctly but most of the time they make mistakes. Also, they say "Bonjour" or " Mer�i" and after that they keep speaking English.If the don`t know much then they shouldn`t speak just general random words. why is it?
