If you're not at the top of your cl, what use would you be?

I'm a college freshman. I'm striving for good grades. Although I'm considered as "one" of the smartest in the cl, I'm not exactly "the" smartest. After I graduate, without at least being a C U M Laude, wouldn't I just fade into the background alongside my other "average" clmates? The employers wouldn't be impressed with anyone not having a clear title (Summa, Magna, C um) among his batchmates, right?
